Brandywine Captures Third Straight Men's Soccer Title

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - No. 1 seed Penn State Brandywine recovered quickly from an early deficit to Penn State Beaver and went on to easily capture their third straight PSUAC Men's Soccer Championship with a 6-1 win on Wednesday evening.

Brandywine got a hat trick from Daniel Willie to knock off the no. 2 seed, including the go-ahead goal in the first half. After taking a 2-1 lead with just under 10 minutes to play in the first, Brandywine never looked back, tacking on four goals in the second period to cruise into the USCAA Division II National Championship Tournament.

Beaver got on the board in the 21st minute as Shelton Hilliard found Danylo Yakymov for a 1-0 lead. Brandywine got the equalizer 5 minutes later on a goal from Mohamed Camara off a cross from Rajbir Lohat, and Willie put them ahead for good by beating the keeper in a 1-on-1 run.

The second half started slow, but Brandywine got on the board in the 58th minute as Brandon Crochunis found the back of the net off a Willie assist. Willie then tacked on two within seven minutes of each other to give Brandywine a 5-1 lead and earn his third hat trick of the year. Luca D'Aprano tacked on an insurance goal in the 88th minute to give Brandywine the 6-1 lead and punch their ticket to Virginia.

Brandywine will now travel to the Virginia Beach Plex in Virginia Beach, Va. to battle for a USCAA National Championship from November 8-12. Brandywine has drawn NHTI and Berkeley (NY) in their pool and will tackle Berkeley first with a Saturday, November 10 match-up.
