Brandywine Bests Beaver 6-1; Captures Third-Straight PSUAC Crown

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Penn State Brandywine continued its dominance of Penn State University Athletic Conference men's soccer as the top-seeded Lions finished off a third consecutive championship run by besting No. 2 Penn State Beaver 6-1 Wednesday night in the conference title match.

Brandywine, winner of 13-straight matches, has now won five of the last six PSUAC championships. The Lions own a 33-game winning streak against conference foes dating back to the beginning of the 2016 season.

Daniel Willie (Upper Darby, Pa./Upper Darby), one of a record-setting nine Lions named first team all-conference earlier this week, registered his third hat trick of the season to pace the offensive effort, while goalkeeper Brandon Welden (Essington, Pa./Interboro), also an all-conference standout, stopped three shots to earn his 13^th win of the year.

Brandywine surrendered the first goal Wednesday, allowing Beaver to take a 1-0 lead as the Lions trailed for the first time in over a month. However, the Lions quickly found the equalizer off the foot of Mohamed Camara (Drexel Hill, Pa./Upper Darby) under five minutes later. Brandywine fell behind against a PSUAC team for the first time since Oct. 15, 2016, a span of 25 matches.

Willie's first goal gave the Lions the lead for good in the 37^th minute. Dom Scrivano (Essington, Pa./Interboro) headed pass through the Beaver defense, springing Willie one-on-one with goalkeeper Sam Sharpless and Willie found the back of the net for the 20^th time this fall.

Willie assisted on Brandywine's third goal, a score from Brandon Crochunis (West Chester, Pa./West Chester East) at the 57:18 mark, extending Brandywine's lead to two goals. Willie completed his third hat trick of the season by scoring twice in a seven-minute span midway through the second half as Brandywine continued to pile it on.

Luca D'Aprano (Exton, Pa./Downingtown East) capped the scoring in the 88^th minute, tapping the ball over the goal line after it was misplayed by the Beaver net minder.

Brandywine held a big advantage in the shot column, outshooting Beaver 27-9. The Lions put 19 of those shots on target.

As the champion of the PSUAC, Brandywine has earned the league's automatic bid to the USCAA Tournament next week in Virginia Beach, Va. Seeded third, Brandywine will face Berkeley (N.Y.) on Nov. 10 and NHTI on Nov. 11 in pool play.
