As April marks Sexual Assault Awareness Month, Penn State Scranton is stepping up to raise awareness and provide support for survivors of sexual abuse with a series of events throughout the month. One of the standout events, scheduled for noon on Thursday, April 11 in The View Cafe, is a therapeutic art activity called “Freedom Flies,” organized by HDFS Assistant Teaching Professor Melissa LaBuda and Smith.

Six faculty members receive 2024 Atherton Award for Excellence in Teaching

Six Penn State faculty members have received the 2024 George W. Atherton Award for Excellence in Teaching. They are Sommar Chilton, associate teaching professor of communication sciences and disorders in the College of Health and Human Development; Linda Istanbulli, Caroline D. Eckhardt Early Career Professor of Comparative Literature and assistant professor of comparative literature and Arabic in the College of the Liberal Arts; Siu Ling "Pansy" Leung, associate teaching professor of mechanical engineering in the College of Engineering; Kuei-Nuan Lin, associate professor of mathematics at Penn State Greater Allegheny; Sarah Nilson, assistant professor of biology at Penn State Beaver; and Kara Stone, assistant teaching professor of English at Penn State Scranton.
Penn State Scranton deans list students honored at celebratory luncheon

Penn State Scranton honored its high achieving students at a special Dean’s List Luncheon on March 14. All students who achieved a grade point average of 3.5 or higher in the Fall 2023 semester were invited to attend and received certificates for their accomplishment.

Scranton nursing student collaborates in rewarding research opportunity

Natalie Faybisovich, a fourth-year undergraduate student pursuing a nursing degree at the Ross and Carol Nese College of Nursing at Penn State Scranton, has co-authored a manuscript focusing on home health care. Her involvement in this research endeavor has been a transformative experience, she said.

The Penn State Scranton community has learned which students will be representing the campus as its THON 2024 dancers during THON Weekend, set for Feb. 16-18 at University Park’s Bryce Jordan Center. Abigal Gaebel, Mahek Gandhi and Ashley Torres will join thousands of other Penn State students in the grueling, yet life-changing, 46-hour, no sitting, no sleeping dance marathon that raises money for the Four Diamonds Fund and children battling pediatric cancer.
Penn State Scranton students now have access to financial literacy resources

Students at Penn State Scranton now have a new resource to help them gain important financial literacy skills thanks to Penn State’s Sokolov-Miller Family Financial and Life Skills Center. A financial resources information kiosk has been set up in the admissions office in Dawson 5 and is available Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
