Beaver stuns DuBois, 71-64

MONACA, Pa. — The Penn State Beaver men's basketball nabbed its third straight conference win after defeating PSUAC rival Penn State DuBois 71-64 at home on Wednesday night.
Freshman guard Keon Butler (Annapolis/Star Severn School) led Beaver in scoring with 20 points followed by PSUAC Player of the Week junior guard John Foster (Austin/Del Valle) and freshman forward/center Jeremy Redwine (Merced), who each racked up 14 apiece for the night.
PSUAC Player of the Week sophomore forward Andrew Brady (Alliance/Marlington) also showed up big for Beaver, earning a double-double with 11 points and 19 boards in the game.
1st half: The teams played evenly-matched for the seven minutes, tying the game several times. But DuBois started to pull away with a two-score lead at 4:13 and jumped ahead by 6 points (25-19). However, Butler came through with a late-quarter 3-point jumper to tie the game at 27-27. But DuBois responded with a 2-pointer jumper to take a one-score lead with 30 seconds left in the half. But Butler answered the call, once again, with another late jumper to tie the game at 29-29 before the halftime buzzer sounded.
2nd half: The game stayed close, with both teams consistently scoring. However, Beaver had success with rebounding the ball, which helped the team to make a 10-2 run and pull ahead by 12-points at 7:16 (55-43). But DuBois started to make a comeback and cut Beaver's lead to only one-score (56-53). As the game meet its climax, DuBois ran into foul trouble and allowed Beaver to score its last 14 points of free-throws. At the end of the half, Beaver outscored DuBois 42-35 in the second half and won by a final score of 71-64.
Box Score Highlights: Beaver outshot DuBois 85.7 percent to 71.4 percent from the charity stripe, hitting 18-21 shots from the line. Beaver outrebounded DuBois 42-23 and scored 11 more points on second-chance points (19-8).
After today's win against DuBois, Beaver improves to an 11-6 record in the PSUAC standings, also improving to a 15-8 overall record for the regular season. Beaver will be back in action to host Penn State New Kensington in its next game on Thursday, Feb. 14. The game is slated for 8:00 p.m.
