Lady Lions sweep New Kensington

MONACA, Pa.— The Penn State Beaver women's volleyball team is now only one game back from a PSUAC playoff spot thanks to a 3-0 sweep against in Monday night's conference home game against rivals Penn State New Kensington.
Beaver played a close set against New Kensington in the first but ultimately pulled out a 25-20 set-win. The Lady Lions turned up the heat on New Kensington in the second, scoring a dominant 11-pint set-win at 25-14. Beaver then sealed the deal by ending it in the third with a 25-19 set win and a 3-0 victory for the evening.
Sophomore Ramiya White (Westland/Wayne Memorial) led the way for Beaver with nine kills, while senior Amanda Mike (Hopewell) contributed seven kills and two aces. Sophomore Kelsie Hallum (Hopewell) led the team in assists with 23 and two aces.
On defense, sophomore Tylai Smith (Birmingham/Minor) led in digs with 11, and sophomore Maria Slater (Houston/Elsik) finished with two crucial blocks.
After today's win, Beaver improves to (14-6) overall for the regular season and 5-3 in the PSUAC conference standings.
The Lady Lions will travel for a season rematch against Penn State Mont Alto on Wednesday, Oct. 9. The game is slated for 7:30 p.m.
