Women’s Volleyball Starts Strong but Falls to Greater Allegheny

MCKEESPORT, Pa.— After falling in many previous sets, Penn State New Kensington women's volleyball took a set off of Penn State Greater Allegheny tonight. However, Greater Allegheny finished the game with the win, 3-1.

New Kensington showed off their great potential during the first set. Starting off with several blocks and in the lead, the women had high hopes for the rest the set. Half way through, Greater Allegheny passed them by, but New Kensington came back and defeated the opposing team, 25-23.

With a chance at their first conference win, New Kensington played tough for the next two sets, but the outcome wasn't what they had hoped for. Greater Allegheny came out on top 25-13 and 25-10. The fourth set was New Kensington's last chance to keep their winning opportunity alive. New Kensington got stuck in a rut for 14 points, but fought back for the rest of the set. Unable to catch up, they lost 25-11.

Freshman Auveonna Perkins (Arnold, Pa./ Valley) was the core of New Kensington's strong blocks. She had one solo block and was able to slow down many of Greater Allegheny's hits with her touches. Kaylea Flick (Murrysville, Pa./ Franklin Regional) led in both kills, 12, and digs, 17.

New Kensington will be back in action at the PSUAC Crossover weekend at Penn State University Park.
