McCormick, Riley lead WBB to a pair of weekend wins

The Penn State Fayette women's basketball team picked up a pair of Pennsylvania State University Athletic Conference (PSUAC) road wins over the weekend to remain in second place in the PSUAC West division.

Friday night, six Fayette (6-3, 4-1) players scored in double figures as the team won at Penn State York (1-5, 1-3), 92-51.

"It was a great team effort tonight and I am happy with how we played," head coach Scott Hillen said. "We played as a team and that shows as we had 21 assists on our 36 made shots."

Kaitlyn Riley (Charleroi, PA/Charleroi HS) led the way with 16 points while Anaejah Harris (Uniontown, PA/Albert Gallatin HS) scored 15, Brooke Poling (Perryopolis, PA/Frazier HS) finished with 13, Taylor McCormick (Laurel, MD/Eleanor Roosevelt HS) tallied 12 and both Siteri Tale (Uniontown/Laurel Highlands HS) and Carissa Cyphert (Scottsdale, PA/Southmoreland HS) finished with 11 points each.

Nicole Sharpe scored 17 points to lead York.

Saturday, Fayette won a sluggish game at Penn State Mont Alto (1-6, 0-5), 76-66.

"It was a sloppy foul fest but we are always happy to get the win," Hillen said. "We played great defense and it carried us."

The teams combined for more fouls (56) than made baskets (45) and the different in the game was made free throws.

Fayette made 26 of 42 (62%) while Mont Alto only made 17 out of 30 (57%).

McCormick led Fayette with 28 points as she made 12 out of 14 free throw attempts and finished with a double-double with 10 steals.
