Hunt Nets 32; Brandywine Holds Off Mont Alto

MEDIA, Pa. -- Freshman guard Jacob Hunt (Wilmington, Del./Brandywine) poured in a career-high 32 points, leading the Penn State Brandywine men's basketball team its first Penn State University Athletic Conference men's basketball victory of the year by a score of 88-79 over Penn State Mont Alto on Friday night.

Hunt, who shot 10-of-17 from the field and knocked down four three-pointers, scored 24 of his points in the second half. He also connected on 8-of-10 free throw attempts.

Brandywine played front runner during the first half, leading nearly wire-to-wire. Bobby Heath (Reading, Pa./Reading) sank a layup and followed with three free throws to give the Lions an early 9-3 lead. Three minutes later, Huntcompleted a three-point play to push the margin to 18-11.

Mont Alto closed within two at 31-29, but a Isiah Cook (Reading, Pa./Reading) answered with a three-pointer and recorded a rare four-point play on the Lions' next possession to help Brandywine hold a 38-35 lead at the break.

Early in the second half, Mont Alto jumped ahead, moving in front 53-50, but Brandywine rallied using a 19-4 surge, spurred on by a pair of three-point plays and a triple from Bryce Barrouk (Glen Mills, Pa./Rustin) and eight points from Hunt, to take its biggest lead of the night at 69-57 with 10:28 to play.

The next four minutes belonged to the visitors, who stormed back to grab a 73-72 edge on Jalen Smith's layup at the 6:03 mark; however, Brandywine countered with the next nine points, the final three of which came from Hunt, to go in front for good. Mont Alto got within 81-76 with 75 seconds to play, but Dwayne Coleman's (Philadelphia, Pa./Delaware Valley Charter) put-back tip-in and four free throws from Hunt during the final minute helped seal the victory for Brandywine.

Brandywine shot a season-best 49 percent from the field and buried nine triples, while Mont Alto recorded 42 percent shooting and canned 11 three-pointers.

Cook produced 17 points and pulled down five boards, while Coleman added nine points, nine rebounds, three steals and two blocks. Barrouk contributed 11 points on 4-of-9 shooting.

Brandywine (3-3, 1-1 PSUAC) starts a three-game road swing Wednesday night at Penn State Wilkes Barre (8:00 PM).
