HAZLETON, Pa. -- The Penn State Brandywine volleyball team secured its first victory of the season as the Lions downed Penn State Hazleton 3-0 (25-20, 25-23, 25-13) in the Penn State University Athletic Conference opener for both teams on Wednesday night.
Hannah Sarafinas (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown West) collected a season-high 11 kills, while Brandi James (Glenolden, Pa./Interboro) notched seven and Kira Thorne (Alconbury, England/Alconbury) added five.
The Lions produced 14 service aces with four coming from Sarafinas and three each by Alsatia Haas-Tome (Norwood, Pa./Interboro), Amanda Floyd (Glenolden, Pa./Interboro) and Gianna Anthony (Newtown Square, Pa./Sacred Heart Academy).
Defensively, Sarafinas accounted for both of the team's blocks, while James paced the Lions with eight digs. Anthony added five digs, while Rebecca Gonzalez (Clearwater, Fla./Washburn Academy) coupled five digs with 20 assists.
Brandywine (1-5, 1-0 PSUAC) is back on the road Sunday at Penn State Scranton beginning at noon.
