Softball Drops a Pair to PSU Schuylkill

SCHUYLKILL HAVEN, Pa. – The Penn State Mont Alto softball team opened the season on the road against PSU Schuylkill this afternoon in a non-conference doubleheader. Schuylkill took both games winning the first 12-4 and won the second game in six inning affair by an 8-0 score.

Penn State Schuylkill 12, Penn State Mont Alto 4

  • Helayna Thomas (Biglerville, Pa. / Biglerville), Dara Murray (Greencastle, Pa. / Greencastle Antrim), Katie McCauslin (Biglerville, Pa. / Biglerville), and Megan Cornwell (Carlisle, Pa. / Boiling Springs) each recorded RBIs.
  • McCauslin took the loss in the circle giving up 12 earned runs on 13 hits.
  • Mont Alto built a 2-0 lead in the opening inning, but the homestanding Lions responded with three in the bottom of the frame and four more runs the inning later.
  • Schuylkill added one run in the third, a pair in the fourth and scored again in the fifth and sixth innings.
  • Dara Murray (Greencastle, Pa. / Greencastle Antrim) went 2-for-2 with a double and run scored.

Penn State Schuylkill 8, Penn State Mont Alto 0

  • Mont Alto was only held to one hit through six innings of play as Krista Feaser (Shippensburg, Pa. / Faith Tabernacle) slashed the lone hit, which was a single in the top of the first.
  • Sierra Santarsiero tossed the shutout for Schuylkill as she finished with six strikeouts.
  • Schuylkill scored four runs in the bottom of the first, added a pair in the fourth inning and plated another two runs for the 8-0 final.
  • Brooklyn Wagner (Newville, Pa. / Big Spring) took the loss in the circle as she gave up eight hits while walking nine opponents.

Mont Alto returns to action in their home opener slated against Christendom College on Monday, March 18. Game times are slated for 3 p.m. and 5 p.m.
