Women’s Soccer: Walters and Delaney Score in 3-2 Loss to #7 Univ. of Maine-Machias

 

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – Despite goals from freshmen Madilyn Walters (Lewistown) and Kaileen Delaney (Lancaster), #3 Pennsylvania College of Technology women's soccer team lost 3-2 to #7 Univ. of Maine-Machias. The game was consolation for the United States Collegiate Athletic Association Women's Soccer Championships with the Wildcats having lost in their opening round match yesterday.

Machias scored early in the 8th and then made it 2-0 netting one in the 21st. Walters' goal cut the lead in half at 39 minutes. Freshman keeper Reda Vermilya (Turbotville) made five saves in the half.

Freshman Kirstin Foti (Landing, N.J.) came in relief for Vermilya in the second half and held Machias scoreless for the first 25 minutes making four saves. After Machias scored in the 71st, Delaney put Penn College back to within one with a goal in the 74th.

With just minutes left in the game, senior Kierstin Steer (South Williamsport) took an indirect kick that just sailed high.

Both teams were evenly matched with 15 shots a piece.

The game is the final for the Wildcats who finish out their season an impressive 8-6-2.
