Women's Basketball Playoffs Field Finalized, Starts Tuesday
UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - A new divisional era is upon us, and the PSUAC women's basketball playoffs will see a slight change as eight teams battle to hoist the championship trophy on Sunday, Feb. 24th. The first round tips on Tuesday night as the top four teams from each division play in the quarterfinals.
Penn State Lehigh Valley and Penn State Beaver earned the top seeds in the East and West, respectively, and will host first round games against divisional opponents. Lehigh Valley, who finished a perfect 17-0 in conference play, will welcome Penn State Scranton on Tuesday night, while Beaver will play host to Penn State DuBois. Each of the top seeds swept their first round opponents during the season.
Penn State Greater Allegheny, the West's two seed, will try to exact some revenge on Penn State Fayette, who upset GA on Friday night to earn the three seed. The win gave Fayette the tiebreaker with DuBois, who will attempt to pull off the upset at Beaver. Penn State Brandywine, the defending conference champions, picked up the East's two seed and will begin their title defense at home against Penn State Hazleton. Brandywine won both games during the regular season.
Winners of the quarterfinals will advance to the semifinals, where cross-divisional play begins. Teams will be reseeded after the quarterfinals, with the top remaining seeds from each division hosting the lower remaining seed from the opposite division. The winners of those games will advance to Championship Sunday at the Bryce Jordan Center on the University Park campus.
The conference champion earns an automatic bid to the United States Collegiate Athletic Association Division II National Championship tournament, hosted by Penn State Fayette and set to begin March 2nd. Full conference playoff information can be found on the Women's Basketball Championship page.
