Women’s Basketball: Five Lady Wildcats in Double Figures in Win over Central Penn

 

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Scoring season high points, the Pennsylvania College of Technology women's basketball team defeated Central Penn College 79-70 Monday night. Freshman Addie Jordan (Muncy Valley) led the Lady Wildcats scoring a personal season high 18 points. Four other Lady Wildcats scored in double figured in the team's best performance of the season including sophomores Danielle Mowery (Shamokin) and Margaret Dewire (Beaver Springs) who each notched 14 and junior Niesha Williams (Loyalsock Twp) and freshman Charese Bova (Beech Creek) who each had 11. Bova also brought down 16 boards for a double-double. With the win, Penn College now improves to 2-8 overall.  

 

The game was hotly contested with a total of 17 lead changes and ties. Williams opened the game with a jumper to give the Lady Wildcats the early lead. Both teams battled taking turns with the lead until an 8-0 run, capped off by a jumper from Jordan, gave Penn College a 26-19 lead at 4:07.

 

The Lady Wildcats held the lead going into the break up 34-29. In the half, they shot 16-41 (.390) from the field with Dewire going 5-9 (.556). They also out-rebounded Central Penn 38-24.

 

Penn College held the lead in the early part of the second half until the Knights chipped away and took a 41-39 lead in the 14th. They built it as high as six but Penn College built some momentum making a 10-0 run, four from Bova to take it back in the 9th.

 

In the final minute of the game, the Lady Wildcats scored seven unanswered points to taking home the nine-point win.

 

For the game, Penn College 33-81 (.407) and totaled 65 rebounds. Mowery led with seven assists.

 

The Lady Wildcats take a break for the holidays before traveling to SUNY Morrisville for a 1 p.m. game on Thursday, Jan. 9
