Three GA Women's Hoopers Notch Double-Double's to Overtake Mont Alto

McKeesport, Pa. - Huge contributions from three leading athletes on the Penn State Greater Allegheny women's basketball team helped propel the women to outlast Penn State Mont Alto in a 76-65 overtaking in the first round of the 2013 PSUGA Tip-Off Tournament.

Mont Alto opened up the game with a quick 8-4 lead, earning four points off of two Greater Allegheny fouls. Two GA veterans, senior point guard Taylor Fulton (Duquesne, Pa./West Mifflin) and junior power forward Christina Floyd (Philadelphia, Pa./Saints Neumann-Goretti), fought point-for-point with MA, only to come up short going into halftime, half 36-28. Stand-out contribution came from the hands of Floyd, who achieved 18 of the first half's 28 points.

Freshman point guard Shacobia Horn (Miami, Fla./Miami Southridge) cashed in six points for the GA offense, pulling them closer to Mont Alto. To switch gears and get a handle on the lead, freshman power forward Aaquila Youngblood (Pittsburgh, Pa./Obama Academy) made her offesive presence known, as she earned eight points in two minutes to contribute to tieing game 60 with five minutes left to play.

Steamrolling from the crowd and with the momentum in the air, Greater Allegheny continued to press on Mont Alto. Freshman Tra-Esha Carswell (Homestead, Pa./Steel Valley) notched seven of the last 16 points in the game, four being from the free throw line. Fulton completed foul shots to ride out the rest of Greater Allegheny's first win of the season, 76-65.

Towering standouts came from Floyd, Fulton and Youngblood in the first day of competition. Floyd had an outstanding game, as she posted 28 points alongside 17 total rebounds. Fulton attained 11 points while dishing out 10 assists. Youngblood owned 18 points and grabbed 11 points to take the first win of her Lion career.

Greater Allegheny will go on to the Championship Game Saturday, November 9th at Wunderley Gymnasium. They look to play Daemen College for first place of the tournament. Tip-off is set for 3 p.m.
