Lady Lions Keep Perfect Record At Home

Monaca, PA- The Lady Lions of Penn State Beaver (11-5, 8-2 PSUAC) played a tough 4-0 in the PSUAC conference Penn State Fayette (Uniontown, PA) this evening.

The Lady Roaring Lions of Fayette came out very strong, forcing multiple turnovers in the opening minutes and taking an early 9-0 run. Brooke Mulneix (Riverside/Beaver Falls, PA) gave Beaver their first two points with 16:09 left in the half. Fayette then went on a 11-5 run to take a 15 point lead (22-7) before Beaver began to fight back. Down by as many as 12 however, the Lady Lions went on a 15-3 run to tie the game at 27 with 3:31 left in the half thanks to an Amanda Temple (Avella/Avella, PA) three pointer. Beaver trailed at the half 38-34.

Mulneix opened up the second half with a quick layup and Temple contributed two free throws to tie the game at 38. Fayette responded with a 13-5 run opening their lead back to eight. Sophomore Coleen Mead (Newport Harbor/Costa Mesa, CA) hit a three point shot with 11:08 left in the game to bring the game to within one (52-53) before Brittany Tomaselli (East Liverpool/East Liverpool, OH) hit a game changing three point shot following Mead to give the Lady Lions a 55-53 lead (10:30). The Lady Lions never lost their lead after that point although Fayette brought the game to within one (61-60). Beaver quickly gained their momentum back. With a 74-68 victory, the Lady Lions improve to 8-2 and #1 in their conference as well.

For the evening, Temple lead all scorers with a game high 32 points and 14 rebounds. Mulneix followed Temple with 18 points and 13 rebounds, and Tomaselli added 12 points and 10 rebounds as well. Beaver out rebounded Fayette 52-34 and outscored them in the second half as well 40-30. The Lady Lions shot 31.3% from the field, 24% from three point range, and 74.3% from the free throw line. 

The Lady Lions next game will be at home on Wednesday, January 25, 2012 at 6pm against Carlow University (Pittsburgh, PA). Wednesday's game is Penn State Beaver Spirit Night and Beaver Pennants will be given away to those in attendance.
