Beaver's Women's Basketball has Perfect Weekend

Monaca, PA- The Lady Lions of Penn State Beaver (5-1, 3-0 PSUAC) played their second game this weekend against Penn State Wilkes-Barre (Lehman, PA).

The game started out very close, as Wilkes-Barre showed strong defense and quickness slowing down Beaver. Beaver trailed 11-5 before Sophomore Coleen Mead (Newport Harbor/Costa Mesa, CA) hit two straight three point shots to tie the game at 11. Beaver went on to take the lead after a Brooke Mulneix (Riverside/Beaver Falls, PA) layup and two more three pointers by Mead, causing Wilkes-Barre to call a timeout. The Lady Lions were up by eight. Although a close one, Beaver went into a half up by seven (29-22)

Wilkes-Barre came out very aggressive in the second half going on a 12-5 run taking the lead to open up the half 35-34. A steal and a layup by Amanda Temple (Avella/Avella, PA) gave the Lady Lions the lead again. A key Shadale Taylor (Sto-Rox/McKees Rocks, PA) three pointer widened Beaver's lead back to four. Up again by as many as ten with under four minutes left in the game Wilkes-Barre brought the game to within one. The game was then tied at 45 with under two minutes left in the game before Brittany Tomaselli (East Liverpool/East Liverpool, OH) had a strong drive in the paint sending her to the free throw line. Beaver went on to win 55-51.

For the afternoon, Beaver shot 31.1% from the field and only 20% from three point range. Temple led all scorers with 18 points, followed by Mead with 14 of her own. Mulneix led the team with 13 rebounds and Kalynn Hill (Montour/Pittsburgh, PA) had six steals.

The Lady Lions next game will be on the road Friday, December 9, 2011 at 6pm against Penn State Schuylkill (Schuylkill Haven, PA).
