Beaver Women's Basketball Team Tops DuBois in Conference Opener

Monaca, PA- Penn State Beaver Women's Basketball Team (3-1, 1-0 PSUAC) played their first PSUAC (Penn State University Athletic Confrence) game of the season tonight against PSU Du Bois (Du Bois, PA). 

The game started out with Du Bois taking a 5-0 lead before Beaver caught on to the momentum with a Brooke Mulneix (Riverside/Beaver Falls, PA) layup. The game seemed close for much of the half, as two ties and two lead changes occurred before Beaver took the lead to as much as ten. Tough defense from the Lady Lions continued as Beaver took a 43-36 lead at the half. 

In the second half, Beaver came out on a 9-0 run with three consecutive three point shots from Mulneix, Coleen Mead (Newport Harbor/Costa Mesa, CA) and Brittany Tomaselli (East Liverpool/East Liverpool, OH). Sophomore Kalynn Hill (Montour/Pittsburgh, PA) contributed to the lead with 4 straight points of her own. The Lady Lions led by as much as 13 in the game but Du Bois fought back hard, bringing the game within four multiple times. It wasn't enough however, with Beaver winning 92-84.

For the night, Beaver shot 41.8% from the field and 35% from three point range and held Du Bois to only 39.7% from the field and 30.4% from three point range. Mulneix and Amanda Temple (Avella/Avella, PA) led the Lady Lions with 24 points each, followed by Hill with 11, and Mead with 10. Hill led the team in rebounds with 11, Tomaselli had 5 assists, and Mulneix had 5 steals. 

Beaver will play their next game on Friday, December 2, 2011 at 6pm at home against Penn State Worthington-Scranton (Dunmore, PA). Friday night will also be free PSU lanyards night.
