Women's Basketball Completes Comeback In OT, Halaszynski Reaches Milestone

McKeesport, Pa- Down by as many as 20, the PSUGA Lady Lions kept on fighting. The game was a tale of two halves. After allowing a 50% field goal percentage in the first half, the Lady Lions clamped down defensively and held the Panthers to a dismal 7.7% second half shooting percentage. They were able to tie the game late in the 4th and force overtime where they prevailed 62-57, over visiting Pittsburgh-Titusville.

All 5 starters for PSUGA scored in double figures. No starter played less than 35 minutes. Two players in particular had huge games for the team. Freshman Forward Christina Floyd (St. John Neumann) grabbed 19 boards and contributed offensively with 11 points. Senior Forward Rachel Halaszynski (Elizabeth Forward) had the other double-double with 18 rebounds and 15 points. The team as a whole finished with 60 rebounds, 20 more than the Panthers' 40. PSUGA also enjoyed a 16-7 edge in steals.

Rachel Halaszynski became the first PSUGA Women's player to score 1000 career points. She was honored on the court with her family members and fans looking on. She received tremendous applause from the faithful at the Wunderly Gymnasium during a stoppage in play.

After the thrilling victory, the Greater Allegheny Women's Basketball team now owns a 1-0 overall record, and will return to the court Monday, November 15, as they travel to Gannon University for a 6:00 PM tip.
