Lady Lions prepare for the 2013 PSUAC Playoffs

Monaca, PA -- With the regular season complete, the Lady Lions have an overall record of 19-14 and a conference record of 10-6 which was just enough to get them into the PSUAC Playoffs. Winning their last six conference games, in a late season push, was exactly what Beaver needed to do to earn the #2 seed. They will now travel to Penn State Mont Alto, the #1 seed, where they are scheduled to face #3 Penn State Schuylkill Monday, May 6th at 1:00 p.m.

Leading the late season push were captains, Korey Freyermuth (Pittsburgh, PA/Perry) and juniors, Lauren Pier (New Brighton, PA/New Brighton) and Nicole Bowersox (Penns Valley, PA/Penn Valley). The lone senior, Freyermuth had yet another stand out season. She batted .431 and had a slugging percentage of .696. In 102 at bats, she contributed 44 hits which included 12 doubles and 5 home runs and resulted in 25 RBI's. From the mound she had an ERA of 2.61 including 152 strikeouts on the year. After another great season, she has been nominated to be named an All-American which would be her third consecutive year to be named to both a PSUAC and USCAA All-American.

Juniors, Pier and Bowersox, have also had impressive seasons. Pier, in 95 at bats hit .347 with a slugging percentage of .568. In 95 at bats she had 33 hits including 7 doubles, 1 triple and 4 home runs. In the field she was nearly perfect being charged with just one error on the year. Bowersox, who batted .409 with a slugging percentage of .564 contributed 45 hits in 110 at bats. She also had a team leading 26 stolen bases. Both Pier and Bowersox received PSUAC All-American honors last season and Pier was also named a USCAA All-American.

These three, in combination with a core veteran group and a handful of freshman talent look to make a strong push this week to defend their 2012 PSUAC Conference Championship.
