Lady Lions lose two conference games

New Kensington, PA -- The Lady Lions traveled to Penn State New Kensington today to play a PSUAC double header. In the first game, Beaver got down early as they gave up 3 hits and 3 runs in the bottom of the first, coming from a New Kensington home run. Beaver continued to struggle offensively, but played more consistent defense holding New Kensington hitless until the fifth and sixth innings when New Kensington scored their fourth run of the game.

Leading the offense for Beaver was junior Nicole Bowersox (Penns Valley, PA/Penn Valley) who had two hits in the game and senior Korey Freyermuth (Pittsburgh, Pa/Perry) who also had a hit.

On the mound in the first game was Freyermuth who threw 6 innings, striking out 8 but gave up 4 earned runs.

In the second game of the afternoon, Beaver's offense improved as Bowersox opened the game with a lead off triple and then scored on a passed ball to give Beaver the early lead. New Kensington quickly answered with a run of their own to tie the game going into the second inning. Beaver answered in the top of the second on a run scored by Rachael Charlier (Burgettstown, PA/Burgettstown) and then held New Kensington scoreless. The game continued to be a back and fourth battle with the game tied at three going into the 7th inning. In the top of the eight inning Beaver was unable to produce a hit and with one out in the bottom of the eighth, New Kensington scored to win the game by a final score of 4-3.

Leading the offense for Beaver was Charlier with 2 hits and Bowersox, Rachel Borrell (Downingtown, PA/Downingtown East) and Myranda Robson (Rochester, PA/Rochester) who each had a hit.

On the mound again was Freyermuth who struck out 5, and gave up 4 runs none of which were earned.

The Lady Lions are back in action tomorrow as they host Penn College for a PSUAC match-up at 12 PM.
