Lose Notches Two Wins in Sweep of Greater Allegheny

 WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Sophomore Lacy Lose (Avis) recorded two wins with 12 strikeouts as the Pennsylvania College of Technology softball team swept Penn State Greater Allegheny 5-3 and 8-0.  Freshman Casey Davis (New Albany) had a strong day with three hits, a run and an RBI.  The win improves the Wildcats to 4-20 overall and 3-9 in the Penn State University Athletic Conference.

It was a big first inning for the Wildcats in game one as they scored five runs.  The Greater Allegheny defense had three errors in the inning as all runs were unearned.  Davis recorded and RBI double.

The Lions got a run back in the second off of two singles.  Lose ended the threat striking out two and getting a ground out. 

Over the next four innings, both teams threatened with runners in scoring position but could not get any across the plate.  In the seventh, Greater Allegheny scored two off an error and two singles making it a 5-3 game.  Lose and the defense shut down the surge, earning the win.

Lose recorded the victory going seven strong with seven strikeouts. Davis ended the game with two hits and an RBI.  The Wildcats totaled six hits.

In game two, freshman Britni Fennell (Conyngham) hit an RBI single to right field to put Penn College up 1-0 in the first.  It became a 3-0 game in the second when sophomore Dana Ritter (Walden, N.Y.) hit an RBI single to center.  Freshman Stephanie Keifrider (Douglassville) helped the cause with a sacrifice fly RBI.

The Wildcats had a two-out rally in the fourth scoring five runs.  Fennell had a two-RBI double while freshman Stephanie Koleno (Moshannon) had a single for two RBI.  The eight-run lead ended the game early as Lose shut down Greater Allegheny in the fifth.

Fennell ended the game with two hits and three RBI.  Also for Penn College, freshman Emily Yoder (Catawissa) had two hits and a run.  The team totaled nine hits in the game.

 Lose ended the game with five strikeouts and gave up only four hits.

Next up, the Wildcats travel to Penn State New Kensington for a 12 p.m. doubleheader on Sunday, Apr. 15.                                                                         -PCT-
