Hazleton Earns Two Wins Against Lady Wildcats

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Despite two hits and three RBI from freshman Britni Fennell (Conyngham), the Pennsylvania College of Technology dropped two games to Penn State Hazleton Wednesday. The Wildcats lost 18-0 in game one and were just edged out 7-5 in the second. The loss drops the team to 2-20 overall and 1-9 in the Penn State University Athletic Conference.

In game two, Hazleton plated three in the first off of three hits. The Wildcats tied it up in the bottom with an RBI single from freshman Casey Davis (New Albany) and a two-RBI triple from Fennell. Davis ended the game with two hits and an RBI.

 The game stayed tied until the third when the Lions made it 5-3 after two bases loaded walks by freshman Stephanie Keifrider (Douglassville). Sophomore Lacy Lose (Avis) came in relief and shut down the Lions' offensive threat. Lose followed with an RBI single in the bottom making it a one-run game.

 Another run in the fourth and fifth made it a 7-4 game in favor of Hazleton. The Wildcats loaded the bases in the final inning of the game with one out. Fennell hit an RBI sacrifice fly making it 7-5, but freshman Emily Yoder (Catawissa) was thrown out trying to advance to third ending the game.

Keifrider recorded the loss with five earned runs. She struck out five.

In the opener, Hazleton pitcher Emily Roat cruised through four innings for the win giving up only one hit. Her offense helped the cause putting up a 17-hit effort.

Sophomore Dana Ritter (Walden, N.Y.) had the only hit in the game with a single in the third. Lose records the loss with 10 earned runs and six strikeouts.

Next up, Penn College hosts Penn State Greater Allegheny on Friday, Apr. 13 for a 2 p.m. doubleheader.
