Wildcats Deal Schuylkill First Loss of Season

 WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Sophomore Lacy Lose (Avis) had two hits and three RBI and earned a win on the mound as the Pennsylvania College of Technology softball team split a conference doubleheader with Penn State Schuylkill Tuesday.  The Lions came into the doubleheader undefeated and suffered their first loss of the season 3-2 in game one.  They rebounded defeating Penn College (2-16, 1-7 PSUAC) 6-0 in game two with pitcher Bryanna Snowell recording a no-hitter with eight strikeouts.

In game one, Schuylkill (8-1, 2-1 PSUAC) jumped out to a 2-0 lead off a two-RBI triple from Katie Fehr.  In the bottom of the inning, Lose (Avis) hit a bloop single to left to score freshman Stephanie Kriefrieder (Douglassville) cutting the lead in half.

It was a pitcher's duel over the next five innings as neither allowed a run.  Things changed in the sixth, when Kriefrider led off with a walk and then stole second.  Freshman Stephanie Koleno (Moshannon) followed with a sac bunt that turned into a single after some miscommunication from the defense saw no coverage at the bag.  After freshman Britni Fennell (Conyngham) walked to load the bases, Lose came up with a big two-RBI double to give the Wildcats the 3-2 lead.  The Schuylkill offense could not answer in the top of the seventh ending the game and dealing the team its first loss of the year.

Lose ended the game with two hits and three RBI.  Koleno also had two hits.  For the game, both teams totaled six hits.

For Schuylkill, Snowell finished the game with three earned runs striking out 11.

 Snowell bounced back in game two shutting down the Wildcat offense.  She helped her cause in the first hitting an RBI single.  After two scoreless, the Lions added two more in the fourth, helped by three errors in the field.  Two more runs in the fifth and one in the seventh ended the game 6-0 in their favor.

Lose recorded the loss for Penn College with 11 hits, three earned runs and five strikeouts.

Next up, the Wildcats travel to Elmira College on Wednesday, Apr. 4 for a 3 p.m. doubleheader.
