Lady Lions Drop Another One Against Carlow

Pittsburgh, PA- The Lady Lions of Penn State Beaver (1-12, 0-0 PSUAC) played on the road this evening against the Celtics of Carlow University (Pittsburgh, PA).

In game one, Beaver couldn't get on the board offensively, although recording four hits for the evening, and went on to lose the first game 4-0. Korey Freyermuth (Perry/Pittsburgh, PA), who was on the mound, pitched six innings, giving up five hits and four runs.

In game two, Beaver started out slow as well, and saw themselves down 5-0 at the bottom of the third inning. Things changed in the top of the fourth however, when Myranda Raymond (Brashear/Pittsburgh, PA) singled, then quickly stole second base. Senior Lindsey Scialdone (Ellwood City/Ellwood City, PA) singled soon after, advancing Raymond to third and pinch runner Jocelyn Wensel (St. Mary's/Force, PA) for Scialdone stole second. Sydney Brinton (Brashear/Pittsburgh, PA) then recorded her first homerun of her college career scoring in Raymond and Wensel, bringing the Lady Lions back in the game trailing 5-3. Carlow scored two more runs in the bottom of the fourth however and Beaver fell behind 7-3 going into the fifth. In the top of the sixth, Jamie Karpinski (Quigley/Beaver, PA) was walked and Freyermuth advanced to second. Rachel Borrell (Downington East/Downington, PA) singled and recorded an RBI scoring in Freyermuth and Karpinski advanced to third. Nicole Bowersox (Penns Valley/Penns Valley, PA) recorded a single and RBI as well soon after and scored in Karpinski. Beaver was down 7-5 going into the bottom of the six. The Lady Lions performed an excellent defensive performance in the bottom of the sixth, but couldn't score two more runs in the top of the seventh. Carlow defeated Beaver 7-5. Freyermuth pitched six innings, giving up 13 hits and seven runs.

The Lady Lions go back on the road this Friday, March 23, 2012 at 4 p.m against Southern Virginia University (Buena Vista, VA).
