Chatham Sweeps Beaver

Pittsburgh, PA- The Women's Softball Team of Penn State Beaver (1-9, 0-0 PSUAC) played on the road this afternoon against Chatham University (Pittsburgh, PA).

In game one, despite Korey Freyermuth (Perry/Pittsburgh, PA) striking out a player, Beaver gave up a run in the first inning. In the third inning, Nicole Bowersox (Penns Valley/Penns Valley, PA) and Lauren Pier (New Brighton/New Brighton, PA) each stole a base setting up a RBI for Ashley Watkins (Seneca Valley/Cranberry Township, PA) to allow both Bowersox and Pier a run. Watkins scored soon after, and Beaver took a 3-1 lead going into the bottom of the third. Beaver gave up three more runs however by the end of the third and trailed 4-3. Chatham also scored in the bottom of the fifth, and took game one by a score of 5-3. Freyermuth pitched six innings, allowing ten hits, five runs, and struckout five players as well. Watkins lead the team offensively with two runs. Beaver ended the game with six hits.

In game two, Beaver fell to Chatham 6-0. Freyermuth pitched six innings, giving up 11 hits, six runs, and struckout six players.

The Lady Lions return to action on Wednesday, March 21, 2012 at 6 p.m on the road against Carlow University (Pittsburgh, PA).
