Myrtle Beach, SC - The Penn State Beaver Lady Lions faced Rivier College Tuesday morning at Grand Park in the Fast Pitch Dreams Spring Classic.

Game 1 was a tight game until the fourth inning when Rivier put the first run on the board.  Beaver quickly answered as Lindsey Scialdone (Ellwood City/Ellwood City, PA) was walked and Ashley Watkins (Seneca Valley/Cranberry Township, PA) and Korey Freyermuth (Perry Traditional Academy/Pittsburgh, PA) both singled to leave the based loaded for Myranda Raymond (Brashear/Pittsburgh, PA) who singled and scored both Scialdone and Watkins leaving the Lady Lions up 2-1 at the end of the 4th inning.  Rivier then came back and tied the game at 2 in the 6th inning.  The game, still tied at the end of 7, went into extra innings where Rivier scored 2 runs in the top of the 8th.  Beaver battled back as Nicole Bowersox (Penn Valley/Penns Valley, PA) hit a double that scored Sydney Britton (Brashear/Pittsburgh, PA) who started the inning on second base because of the international tie breaker format.  Despite their efforts, the Lady Lions were not able to muster another run and fell to Rivier College 4-3 in 8 innings.  Taking the loss on the mound was Freyermuth who pitched 7.1 innings giving up 4 hits and one earned run.  Watkins lead the Lady Lions today going 2 for 4 at the plate.

In Game 2, Beaver came out swinging scoring a run on a doube by Watkins but Rivier fought back to take a 3 run lead in the top of the second.  Rallying in the bottom of the second, the Lady Lions scored 2 runs to tie the game at 3 because of hits by Bowersox and Lauren Pier (New Brighton/New Brighton, PA) who brought in Jamie Karpinski (Quigley Catholic/Beaver, PA) and Sydney Britton.  Rivier then scored 1 run in the third and 4 more in the fifth inning to take an 8-3 lead going into the bottom of the inning.  Pier scored on a hit by Raymond after hitting a single herself in the bottom of the inning.  Unfortunately that effort was not enough to hold off Rivier as they went on to score 4 more runs in the 7th increasing their lead to 8 which was too big of a deficit for the Lady Lions to overome.  Taking her 4th loss of the year on the mound was Korey Freyermuth who went 7 innings giving up14 hits. Offensive leaders this game were Sydney Britton who went 2 for 3 scoring 1 run and Lauren Pier who went 2 for 4 scoring 1 run and getting an RBI.

The Penn State Beaver Lady Lions now stand at 0-4 and will play again Wednesday, March 7th at 11:30am and 1:30pm against Wesley College.
