Brandywine Overcomes Rain, Beaver for Fourth Straight Title

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - It wouldn't be a PSUAC Men's Soccer Championship game if there wasn't rain. Top-seeded Penn State Brandywine battled the elements and Penn State Beaver and came out on the victorious end of a 3-2 thriller on a rainy night at West Turf Fields on the University Park campus.

Much like their women's counterparts before them, Brandywine picked up the first goal to take the lead and make the number two seed chase them. Tyler Skaer scored off a Axel Ayllon-Ortiz pass in the 63rd minute, but Beaver had an answer six minutes later. PSUAC Player of the Year Danylo Yakymov found John Valiga to tie it at 1-1 before Yakymov scored himself in the 72nd minute for a 2-1 Beaver advantage.

Brandywine's Evan Majercak evened the score with 11 minutes to play and it looked like overtime could be needed. Alex Lopez decided that wasn't in the cards, taking a Joey Cairy assist and scoring just two minutes later for a 3-2 Brandywine lead. The Lions would hold on to capture their sixth conference title in the last seven years.

With the win, Brandywine heads to the 2019 USCAA Division II Men's Soccer National Championship in Virginia Beach, Va. from Nov. 7-11.
