Gerardo Diaz Notches PK Goal in GA Men's Soccer Drop to WCCC, 2-1

McKeesport, Pa. - Freshman midfielder Gerardo Diaz (Mayaguez, Puerto Rico/I. C. Academy) achieves a penalty kick goal in Penn State Greater Allegheny's second match-up of the season against Westmoreland County Community College on Wednesday afternoon.

The game remained scoreless through the first half, as freshman goalkeeper Qimin (Henry) Sun (Beijing, China/Manitou Springs) made his goalie debut. He was able to stop five shots on goal in the first half to keep this game deadlocked at zero.

Three minutes into the second half, WCCC answered on a penalty kick to take the score to 1-0. Five minutes later, G. Diaz did the same after penalty, evening the playing field. The teams were fighting tooth and nail until WCCC worked the ball back down the field, slamming the ball past Sun, taking the game to a 2-1 WCCC advantage.

The clock ran quickly as the men tried to get back into the game and try to generate some offense. Unfortunately, their efforts were not enough as the clock ran thin; WCCC up 2-1.

Sun managed eleven saves in the 90 minute contest. The GA offense served 16 shots to WCCC's goalie, seven of them being on goal. Freshman midfield Bengaly Diane (New Jersey/James J. Ferris), freshman forward Manoj Sharma (India/Baldwin) and Diaz all generated two shots on goal.

Greater Allegheny was set to play Penn State Worthington-Scranton on Sunday afternoon, but was canceled by Scranton. GA ends their first season back in collegiate play with a record of 3-10, 2-7 PSUAC.
