Wilkes-Barre Soccer Gets First Win of the Season

The Penn State Wilkes-Barre (1-3) soccer team came up with its first win of the season in dominating fashion over Penn State Schuylkill, Wednesday afternoon. Wilkes-Barre scored five first half goals and added two more in the second half for a final score of 7-1.

Freshman David Cavalieri had an impressive game scoring three goals in the first ten minutes of the game and scored another one in the second half to finish with four goals total. Rob Hadvance set up Cavalieri for two of three assists and also had an assist to Senior Sen Lin in the 30th minute. Before the first half came to an end, in the 33rd minute, Sophomore Dan Grandinetti found Sophomore Mark Bugelholl for a score.

Freshman Matt John didn't waste any time as he scored two minutes into the second half on a ball from Sophomore Paul Ascenzi. David Cavaleri got his fourth goal of the game in the 55th minute to end the scoring for the lions. Wilkes-Barre outshot Schuylkill 46-20 for the game and had a 7-3 advantage on corner kicks. Junior Anthony Aquilina had eight saves in goal during the first half while Freshman Chris Jaworski stopped three shots in the second half.

Next up, Wilkes-Barre takes on another conference opponent Saturday at 1p.m. when they take on Penn State New Kensington.
