Deep Bench Propels Wilkes-Barre Men's Basketball to 78-60 Win Over Du Bois

Lehman, Pa- Thirteen different members of the Penn State Wilkes-Barre (5-4, 2-0 PSUAC) men's basketball team scored points, as their plethora of scoring options led them to a 78-60 victory over visiting Penn State Du Bois (2-6, 1-2 PSUAC).

Du Bois jumped out to an early 7-3 advantage, as sophomore guard Kyle Mills (Bushkill, PA/East Stroudsburg North) drilled a three-pointer at 17:43 of the first half.  Freshman forward Emmanuael Young (Philadelphia, PA) knocked down a three of his own to tie the game at 11, before three straight points from junior guard Denzel Mensah (South Plainfield, NJ/South Plainfield) gave Wilkes-Barre a 14-11 lead.

After a pair of ties and lead changes, the seesaw affair quickly turned in Wilkes-Barre's favor.  A jumper from senior guard Gregory Cooper (Philadelphia, PA/Strawberry Mansion) gave the home team a 21-19 advantage, and served as the catalyst for the 15-2 scoring run that followed.  Three consecutive points from freshman guard Khalil Hopson (Sharon, PA/Sharon) brought Du Bois back to within 10, at 34-24, but Wilkes-Barre struck back with a 15-8 burst to end the half.

Up comfortably in the second half, Wilkes-Barre held off the Du Bois charge and secured its second PSUAC win.  Of their thirteen players that made the stat sheet, three notched in double-figures with 11: Young, senior point guard Keith Johnson (Bronx, NY/Bronx School), and junior guard Kenneth Randall (Lancaster, PA).  Du Bois was led by Mills who tallied 18 points on 6-13 shooting, including a 5-10 (50%) mark from behind the arc.  Hopson added 14 points and 4 rebounds, while freshman guard Austin Hawkins (Philadelphia, PA/Philadelphia Electric) netted 10 points and 7 rebounds.

Both squads return to PSUAC action tomorrow afternoon, with Du Bois traveling to Worthington Scranton and Wilkes-Barre hosting Greater Allegheny.
