Men’s Basketball: Wilkes Barre Rebounds Strong in 78-63 Win Over Penn College

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Despite 24 points from sophomore Jesse Newman (Waterfall), the Pennsylvania College of Technology men's basketball team lost 78-63 to Penn State Wilkes Barre Saturday. Wilkes Barre out-rebounded the Wildcats 40-25 including 18 offensive rebounds helping the cause. With the loss, Penn College falls to 3-13 overall and 2-6 in the Penn State University Athletic Conference. 

 

In the first half, the Lions outscored Penn College 38-24. Newman hit a jumper at 13:29 to give Penn College its first lead of the game at 12-11. He finished the game going 6-17 (.352) from the field including 2-4 (.500) from beyond the arc.

 

The Wildcats took the lead three more times before Wilkes Barre took it back for the final time with just over nine minutes to go.

 

In the second half, Penn College improved offensively scoring 39 points to the Lions' 40. The team brought it as close to five but the Lions were able to hold on for the win.

 

Neumann and freshman Nathaniel Brown (Philadelphia) led the Wildcats with six rebounds with Brown also adding nine points. As a team, they shot 20-54 (.370) from the field.

 

Next up, Penn College hosts Central Penn College on Monday, Jan. 21 for an 8 p.m. game.
