Men Win Last Home Game of the Season

Monaca, PA- The Men's Basketball Team of Penn State Beaver (20-4, 16-1 PSUAC) played their last home game of the regular season against Penn State Greater Allegheny (McKeesport, PA).

A free throw by Chris Weathers (New Brighton/New Brighton, PA) started a 5-0 run for Beaver before Greater Allegheny finally responded with a run of their own. At the 13:44 mark of the first half, Nick Miller (Beaver Falls/Beaver Falls, PA) started a 8-3 run of his own to give Beaver a 22-11 lead with 11:22 left in the first half. Beaver went into the half ahead 39-25.

Tyler Care (Lincoln Park/Hopewell, PA) opened up the second half with a three point shot to open the lead to 16. Greater Allegheny responded but Beaver went on a 10-5 run to open up a 20 point advantage (52-32) with 15:20 left in the half. The momentum stayed in Beavers' favor for the rest of the game, and a stepback jumpshot from Jeqa Powe (Carlynton/Carnegie, PA) gave Beaver their biggest lead of the day (87-57). Beaver went on to win for the night 89-60.

Today's game was also Senior Day for three of Beavers' men: Tony Houghton, Darius Prince, and Tyler Care. Tony Houghton (Perry/Pittsburgh, PA) lead all scorers with 17 points, followed by Mike Martin (Dublin Jerome/Dublin, OH) with 14, Miller with 12, and Weathers contributed a double-double with 10 points and 10 boards as well. Beaver shot 40% from the field, 33.3% from three-point range, and 62.5% from the free throw line. Today's win secured Beaver with the #1 seed in the PSUAC playoffs. The game will be held on February 21, 2012; opponent and time will be announced at a later date. 

Beaver will go on the road this Monday, February 13, 2012 at 7:30 p.m for their last game of the regular season against Geneva College (Beaver Falls, PA).
