Smith Hits Three in OT for Victory

  WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Freshman Michael Smith (Pleasantville, N.J.) hit a three with five second left in overtime to lift the Pennsylvania College of Technology to its second straight win over Penn State Scranton 77-75.  The Wildcats trailed by one in the final second of the game and clutch shooting from Smith sealed the victory.  He ended the game with five points.  Freshman Scott Fenton (Dickson City) led the team with 24 points and 13 rebounds while freshman Colton Acorn (Wellsboro) added 14 and 10 respectively.  The win improves the team to 4-18 overall and 4-9 in the Penn State University Athletic Conference.

In the second half, Penn College committed 17 personal fouls and got into early foul trouble.  The Lions built their lead up to 14 with just over 13 to play.  Over the next 10 minutes, Penn College stayed patient and slowly built a comeback.  Freshman Azeez Sulaimon (Burtonsville, Md.) hit a jumper to make it a one point game at 1:52.  

Sulaimon ended the game with seven.

Fenton hit a layup to make it 63-62 with 1:22 left.  DJ Davis hit a free throw to tie it and neither team could make a shot sending it into overtime.  Davis ended the game leading all scorers with 25 and had 15 rebounds.

For the game, the Wildcats totaled 28 personal fouls.  They out-rebounded Scranton 60-53 and shot .349 (30-86) from the field.

In the first half, freshman Trevor Dietrich (Quakertown) hit back-to-back jumpers to open the game on a 4-0 lead.  The Lions came back and took the lead 6-4 with 17-20 remaining.  They would hold onto the lead for the rest of the half and go into the break up 34-26.

Also for Penn College, sophomore Ethan Kline (Bellefonte) had 14 points.  For the Lions, Hasiin Dixon had 20 points and 15 rebounds and Matt Macart and Joe Gibbons added 12 and 10 respectively.  

 Next up, the Wildcats host Penn State Wilkes Barre on Thursday, Feb. 9 for an 8 p.m. game.
