Colonels Second Half Surge Deals Penn College 100-61 Loss
WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. –Freshman Scott Fenton (Dickson City) sank 18 to lead the Pennsylvania College of Technology but it wasn't enough to overcome a 70 point second half from Wilkes University in the 100-61 loss Thursday night. The Wildcats were tied at 30 at the break but could not combat the offensive show put on by Wilkes (8-3) that saw the team shoot .545 (24-44) from the field.
In the opener down 18-9 at 12:23, Penn College (1-9) put together a 6-0 run, three from freshman Michael Acquaro (Oakhurst, NJ) to pull within two. After keeping it close over the next couple minutes, sophomore Ethan Kline (Bellefonte) hit a layup to give the team its first lead at 22-21 with just over five in the half.
Kline finished the game with 12 and a team high eight rebounds. Acquaro finished with seven and four assists.
After the Colonels took back the lead, it was Kline again hitting a layup and a bonus free throw on the foul to give the Wildcats the 29-27 lead with under a minute. The Colonels' Jourdon Wilson hit a three to take back the lead but Kline sank another free throw to take the two teams into the break tied.
In the half, Penn College out-rebounded Wilkes 27-22.
Out of the half, both team traded leads. The Wildcats had their biggest lead of the game at 40-37 off a layup from Fenton. Things went down though as fatigue set in for the Wildcats and Wilkes found its grove surging to the 100 points over the next 15 minutes.
As a team, Penn College shot .400 (24-60) from the field. Also in double figures was freshman Colton Acorn (Wellsboro) with 10.
Next up, the Wildcats host Penn State Fayette on Saturday, Jan. 7 at 3 p.m.
