Clash Of The Lions

Monaca, PA- The Men's Basketball Team of Penn State Beaver (3-2, 0-1 PSUAC) played their first PSUAC game of the season against PSUAC rival Penn State Du Bois (Du Bois, PA).

A very fast paced game started out with two Nick Miller (Beaver Falls/Beaver Falls, PA) three pointers, giving Beaver a 10-6 lead. With only two ties and two lead changes, Beaver controlled most of the half. Du Bois replied with great drives of their own, but went into the half trailing 33-28.

The second half was seen with Du Bois coming out very aggressive. They led the game by as many as seven with Beaver trailing late towards the end of the game. With under two minutes left, tough defense and turnovers brought Beaver to within five.  Late fouls kept Du Bois with the lead but with under a minute left to play, Miller had an aggressive layup drawing a foul sending him to the free throw line for a three point play opportunity. Unfortunately, Miller missed the free thow, and Beaver fell short 62-59.

For the evening, Beaver shot 35.1% from the field and 26.1% from three point range. Miller led all scorers with 18 points, followed by Darius Prince (West Mifflin/Pittsburgh, PA) with 10. Quentin Burton (Ambridge/Ambridge, PA) led the team with 5 rebounds, followed by Chris Weathers (New Brighton/New Brighton, PA) with 4. Prince also led the team with 4 steals.

Beaver will play their next game Friday, December 2, 2011 at home at 8pm against Penn State Worthington-Scranton (Dunmore, PA). This Friday is a free PSU lanyard night.
