Penn State DuBois Repeats as PSUAC Baseball Champions

DUBOIS, Pa. - Penn State DuBois won its second straight PSUAC baseball title, beating Penn State Mont Alto 5-0 in the 2024 championship game at Showers Field in DuBois. The division rivals have a long history in the championship, with Mont Alto being the only other team to win a conference baseball crown since 2017. But the top-seed from the West was too much in 2024, shutting down a solid Mont Alto lineup and holding them scoreless for the second straight week.

Grant Lillard opened the scoring with a solo home run in the first inning that cleared the right-center field fence. Mont Alto starter Tyler Koser settled in over the next 2.2 innings, allowing no runs again until the fourth inning. He faced some trouble in the fourth as Tyler Yough doubled and Bryce Dobson walked. Colby Bodtorf finally opened up the lead for DuBois, singling to score Yough and Dobson.

Lillard followed with a single up the middle to plate two more runs for a 5-0 lead before he was thrown out trying to stretch to second base. Lillard finished the game with three hits and three RBI, and Yough added two hits for the victors.

Connor Cherry was superb on the mound, going 6.2 innings and allowing just four hits while striking out five. He limited Mont Alto's chances, with their best one coming in the seventh when Cameron Bailey walked and advanced to third on a Braden Zeger single. Zach Witherow came in to get the final out for DuBois, inducing a ground ball to second base as the DuBois dugout began its celebration.

DuBois claims the PSUAC's automatic bid to the 2024 USCAA Small College World Series, scheduled for May 12-17 in DuBois, Pa.
