Penn State Beaver Crowned Penn State University Athletic Conference Baseball Champions

DuBois, Pa. - With an early stoppage due to weather implications, the Penn State Beaver baseball team has been crowned the 2016 Penn State University Athletic Conference (PSUAC) baseball champions over Penn State Schuylkill, by a margin of 18-4.

Schuylkill kicked off the first inning, noting a run on a Chris Kreider single to right field, Gaetano Visconti adding the first run, 1-0.

Beaver matched them one run in the bottom of the inning with a solo homerun to center field, Stephen Antolic scoring and tying the game at one.

The bottom of the second brought more Beaver runs, as Matt Capo, Ryan Onderko, Tyler Thellman and Duncan Milkos all added runs to the Lion score, 5-1 over Schuylkill.

With a Matt Roberts single to right field, Schuylkill's Visconti tallied their second run of their second game of the day, still behind 5-2.

The bottom of the third got away from Schuylkill as the weather continued to come down on the young student-athletes. A total of 13 runs on ten hits managed to elevate the Beaver Lions well above Schuylkill, 18-2. Through the inning, Beaver managed to get through the batting order twice before heading into the fourth.

The top of the fifth saw a pair of hits turning into another two tallies for Schuylkill, cutting the deficit to a 18-4 Beaver lead.

With heavy rain and thunderstorms rolling into the area, the game was called after the conclusion of the fourth inning; Penn State Beaver being crowned the 2016 Penn State University Athletic Conference (PSUAC) Champions.

Beaver, a #5 seed entering the tournament, finishes the weekend with a 19-19, 15-9 PSUAC record heading into the United States Collegiate Athletic Association World Series.

On the championship day, Beaver managed 18 runs on 17 hits. Left-fielder Nick Casasanta hit 4-of-4 with four runs batted in and one added himself as Matt Capo managed 3-of-3 with three runs and one RBI. Shawn Shaner, the catcher, went 2-of-2 with three RBIs as the center-fielder, Duncan Miklos, also hit 2-of-2 with two RBI and three runs scored himself.

Sophomore right-handed pitcher Andrew Emes threw the five-inning complete game, letting up just six hits. The righty threw 50 strikes on 88 pitches, noting two strike-outs on his 25 batters faced.
