Beaver falls to Greater Allegheny in the first round of the PSUAC Playoffs

 

State College, PA -- Finishing the regular season 11-7 in the conference, Beaver earned the fourth seed as they entered the PSUAC playoffs held at Medlar Field in State College.  Matched up against rival Greater Allegheny tonight's game kept everyone on the edge of their seats.


Penn State Greater Allegheny jumped out to an early two run lead in the bottom of the first inning but were then held in check as Beaver began to make their come back.  In the top of the fourth inning, Beaver tied the game at 2-2, and then took the lead in the fifth inning scoring two additional runs.  In the sixth inning the Lions of Beaver added two addtional runs and had a 6-2 lead as they went into the seventh inning.  Needing just to get three outs to win their first round game, Beaver gave up four runs in the bottom of the inning after holding Greater Allegheny scoreless since the first inning allowing them to tie.

With the score 6-6 going into extra innings, Beaver was held scoreless in the top of the inning.  In the bottom, Greater Allegheny managed to get some base runners and scored the game winning run on a walk off RBI single.  

 



On the mound for Beaver was senior, Cory Wagner (Monaca, PA/Center), who threw six innings giving up 10 hits and 5 earned runs before being relieved by junior, Tyler Schuster (Beaver Falls, PA/Beaver Falls) who threw one inning giving up one hit and one run.  Facing the final batter  and giving up the loss was senior, Ryan Hudacsek (Economy, PA/Ambridge).

Offensively, Beaver was led by senior, Markus Allen (New Castle, PA/Union) who went 2 for 4 with an RBI, junior, Mike Karas (Imperial, PA/West Allegheny) who also went 2 for 4 and junior, Tyler Schuster who went 2 for 3 including a double and 2 RBI's.

Beaver will play again tomorrow afternoon at 12:00 PM, as they face Penn State Brandywine who fell to Penn College earlier in the day.  For live audio broadcast of the game please visit the PSUAC Baseball Playoff Website.
