Baseball: Wildcats Improve to 13-1 in PSUAC with Sweep of PSU Scranton

 

SCRANTON, Pa. - Sophomore Craig Watson (McEwensville) and junior Joshua Longsderff (Columbia) each recorded a win on the mound as the Pennsylvania College of Technology baseball team swept Penn State Scranton 11-1 and 19-5 Thursday. Watson and Longsderff both opened each game pitching scoreless innings as the Wildcat offense plated 30 runs. With the wins, the team improves to 16-12 overall and 13-1 in the Penn State University Athletic Conference (PSUAC).

 

In game one, Watson recorded five strikeouts over the first two innings allowing only one hit. Junior Cody Buterbaugh (Conestoga) capped off a four-run first with a two-RBI single.

 

Sophomore John Rodriguez-McKeon (Stroudsburg) came in relief in the third with a 4-0 lead pitching the next two innings allowing one run. Longsderff and sophomore Travis Hendershot (Muncy) each reocrded an RBI in the fourth and sophomore Zachary Weil (Kutztown) helped a four-run fifth with a three-RBI double.

 

Freshman Roberto Falk (Williamsport) closed out the game with a scoreless fifth. Penn College totaled 11 hits with Longsderff going 3 for 4.

 

In the second game, Longsderff recorded four strikeouts over three innings of work. Up 1-0 in the third, the Wildcats plated five runs including RBI from Hendershot, Watson and freshman Kyle Eck (South Williamsport).

 

Eck ended the game with two hits and two RBI.

 

Freshman Rantz Mahaffey (Linden) pitched the next three innings allowing two runs in the fifth and three in the sixth. Penn College added 13 more runs in the game including seven runs in the seventh. Freshman Seth Bowersox (Port Royal) closed out the game pitching a scoreless seventh.

 

Hendershot hit three doubles in the game and had three RBI. Watson also had three RBI and rakced up two hits.

 

Next up, the Wildcats travel to Penn State Wilkes Barre on Saturday, Apr. 20 for a 2 p.m. doubleheader.
