Beaver drops two conference games to rival Greater Allegheny

Butler, PA -- Beaver traveled to Pullman Park this afternoon where they took on PSUAC rival Greater Allegheny in a double header. The first game was a close match-up as neither team scored in the first three innings, but Beaver opened up the game in the top of the fourth as Cory Wagner (Monaca, PA/Center) was walked and able to advance to second on a single by senior, Grant Scott (Sewickley, PA/Ann Arbor Pioneer). With runners on base, the next batter to the plate was senior, Tom Lewis (Aliquippa, PA/Hopewell) who hit a triple to left center field scoring Wagner and Scott. Greater Allegheny quickly answered with a run of their own in the bottom of the inning and stayed hot for the rest of the game scoring three runs in the fifth inning and adding another in the sixth to end the game by a score of 5-2.

Leading the offense for Beaver in the first game was Scott who went 2 for 3 and Lewis who was 1 for 3 with 2 RBI's.

On the mound to start the game was Tyler Schuster (Beaver Falls, PA/Beaver Falls) who went 5 innings striking out four, but giving up 5 hits and 4 runs. In relief was Ryan Hudacsek (Economy, PA/Ambridge) who threw 1 inning giving up 2 hits and one run.

Game two of the afternoon seemed to be a continuation of where Greater Allegheny left off in game one, but Beaver wasn't able to get their offense going to keep up. In a game that lasted only 5 innings, Beaver managed only two hits coming from Lewis, who doubled and then by senior, Jim Musgrave who singled to score Lewis accounting for Beaver's only run of the game in the second inning. Greater Allegheny went on to score eight runs in the bottom of the inning and then added five more in the third.

On the mound to start the second game was Brad Verlihay (Beaver Falls, PA/Blackhawk) who was later relieved by Stephen Galmarini (New Castle, PA/Union) and Michael Harrington (Monaca, PA/Central Valley) who each pitched just 1.1 innings. None of the pitchers were able to keep Greater Allegheny off the base paths as Beaver fell quickly by a final score of 13-1 bring their conference record to 6-7.
