Baseball: Slagle No Hits Wildcats as PSU Harrisburg Sweeps

HARRISBURG, Pa. - The Pennsylvania College of Technology baseball team was stunned in game one of a doubleheader against Penn State Harrisburg as pitcher Derek Slagle recorded a no-hitter winning 3-0. The Lions took game two of the non-conference contest Tuesday 4-3 as junior Cody Buterbaugh (Conestoga) recorded three hits. With the losses, the Wildcats are now 14-12 overall.

Slagle relied on a stellar defense in the opener as he recorded only three strikeouts against Penn College. Junior starter Brian Santangelo (Middletown, Conn.) pitched four scoreless innings before a rally in the fifth plated all three runs. Freshman Derek Umstead (Linden) came in relief shutting down Harrisburg, but the damage had been done.

In game two, sophomore Matthew Demilio (Greensburg) allowed all the Lions' over the first three innings including a two-run homerun in th first. Freshman Seth Bowersox (Linden) pitched the next two innings stopping the offense.

Sophomore Travis Hendershot (Muncy) made it a 4-1 game in the fourth hitting an RBI single to score freshman James Simasek (Landenberg). Both ended the game with two hits.

Another run in the sixth came from an RBI single to center from junior Joshua Longsderff (Columbia) scoring sophomore Zachary Weil (Kutztown). Penn College tried to score Hendershot on the play but was thrown out ending the inning.

Hendershot ended the game with two hits.

Sophomore Craig Watson (McEwensville) retired the side in order in the sixth. With two outs in the seventh, Weil hit an RBI single making it 4-3. Simasek tried to tried to score on the play for the tie but was thrown out ending the game.

For the game, the Wildcats totaled eight hits.

Next up, Penn College travels to Penn State Scranton on Thursday, Apr. 18 for a 2 p.m. doubleheader.
