Lions get one win, before rain suspends the second game

Monaca, PA -- Beaver faced Fayette this afternoon for a PSUAC double header. The game got off to a routine start as both teams put a run on the board in the first inning and were scoreless in the second. In the bottom of the third inning Beaver added another run to make the score 2-1. In the fourth inning, the game took a dramatic turn as Fayette scored two runs, but Beaver answered with four of their own as hits came from Bill Harrington (Monaca, PA/Central Valley), Alex Filippi (Aliquippa, PA/Center) and Markus Allen (New Castle, PA/Union) who trippled to bring in three runs and then scored himself on a wild pitch. After a scoreless fifth inning, the Roaring Lions of Fayette tried to make a come back, but were never able to get back in the game as Beaver hit very well in the sixth inning. After an Allen single and stolen base, the next two batters were walked to load the bases. A single by Cory Wagner (Monaca, PA/Center) scored a run and for the rest of the inning careless defense and poor pitching allowed the Lions to advanced on the base paths easily as Beaver batted through their order. Fayette did add one additional run in the top of the seventh but it was too little too late as they fell to Beaver by a final score of 11-4.

Leading the offense for the Lions was Alex Filippi who went 3 for 4 including a double and 2 RBI's, Markus Allen who went 2 for 4 with a triple and Tom Lewis (Aliquippa, PA/Hopewell) who went 2 for 3 with a double.

On the mound for Beaver was Vincent Beatty (Rochester, PA/Rochester) who threw 5.2 innings giving up just 4 hits and striking out 7. In relief were Tyler Schuster (Beaver Falls, PA/Beaver Falls) and Ryan Hudacsek (Economy, PA/Ambridge) neither of which gave up a run.

The seond game of the double header was suspended due to weather and will be rescheduled at a later date. The Lions will return to regularly scheduled action on Saturday, April 13th as they travel to Penn State Mont Alto.
