Baseball: Wildcats Make It Six in a Row

HAZLETON, Pa. – Junior Joshua Longsderff (Columbia) racked up five RBI and three hits as the Pennsylvania College of Technology swept Penn State Hazleton 12-2 and 6-2 Wednesday. The wins extend the Wildcats' win streak to five with junior Brian Santangelo (Middletown, Conn.) and freshman Luke Zamiskie (Latrobe) recording the victories. The team is still on top of the Penn State University Athletic Conference standings with a 14-7 overall record and 11-1 conference.  

In game one, Santangelo pitched all five innings with seven strikeouts and two earned runs. Longsderff gave him some run support capping off a four-run first inning with a bases-loaded double to score three. Another two runs in the second, including another RBI from Longsderff made it 6-0 before the Lions got on the board with a run in the third from back-to-back singles.  

Longsderff was 3 for 3 in the game. Sophomore Craig Watson (McEwensville) had an RBI double in the fourth to add another run to the board for the Wildcats.

Up 7-2 in the fifth, Penn College plated its final five runs that included a two-run home run from freshman James Simasek (Landenberg).

In the second game, Zamiskie shook off a two-run first inning and pitched the next five flawlessly with four strikeouts and only three total hits.

The Wildcats took the lead in the third with three runs. Simasek hit a bases-loaded single to score two.

Another three came in the fifth with junior Cody Buterbaugh (Conestoga) recording an RBI and sophomore Zachary Weil (Kutztown) hitting a 2 RBI single.

The game was called early due to severe storms.

Also for the Wildcats, freshman Kyle Eck (South Williamsport) was 2 for 2.

Next up, Penn College travels to King's College for a 4 p.m. game on Thursday, Apr. 11.
