Baseball: Wildcats Win Fourth Straight with Sweep of PSU Beaver

MONACA, Pa. - Sophomore Travis Hendershot (Muncy) notched five hits and three RBI to help the Pennsylvania College of Technology baseball team sweep Penn State Beaver in a conference doubleheader Sunday. The Wildcats won 6-4 and 7-4 solidifying their top spot in the Penn State University Athletic Conference (PSUAC)_ standings. The wins are their fourth straight and improve the team to 12-7 overall and 9-1 in the PSUAC.

Sophomore Joshua Longsderff (Columbia) recorded the win in game one pitching six innings with four strikeouts, five hits and four earned runs. He got early run support as Penn College score two in the first off RBI from junior Cody Buterbaugh (Conestoga) and freshman James Simasek (Landenberg).

Simasek ended the game with two hits.

Beaver tied it up in the bottom with two runs. Two more runs, one each in the third and fourth, gave the Wildcats back the leader. Sophomores Zachary Weil (Kutztown) and Craig Watson (McEwensville) each recorded an RBI.

Weil ended the game 2 for 4.

After the Lions again tied it up in the sixth, Penn College capitalized on an error in the seventh scoring two runs. Sophomore Zachary Buterbaugh (Conestoga) closed out the game and notched the save with a strikeout in the bottom of the inning.

The Wildcats again put runs on the board early in the second game with a run in the first off an RBI single from Hendershot. Another run in the second, an RBI double from Zachary Buterbaugh, made it 2-0.

Simasek and Weil racked up RBI hits in the third to help add cushion to the lead. Beaver cut the lead to 4-3 with three runs in the bottom of the inning.

Sophomore starter Zachary Yetter (Thompstontown) got into some trouble in the fifth as Beaver scored and run and had the bases loaded. Freshman Luke Zamiskie (Latrobe) got out of the jam getting a fly ball to end the inning.

Yetter ended the game with three strikeouts and four earned runs.

With the game at 5-4 in the sixth, Penn College added its final two runs including an RBI double from Hendershot. Zamiskie finished the game out allowing no hits.

For Penn College, Cody Buterbaugh was 3 for 5 while Hendershot was 3 for 4 with three RBI.

Next up, the Wildcats travel to Penn State Hazleton on Wednesday, Apr. 10 for a 2 p.m. doubleheader.
