Baseball: Wildcats Take One From Greater Allegheny

BUTLER, Pa. - The Pennsylvania College of Technology baseball team split a Penn State University Athletic Conference (PSUAC) doubleheader with rival Penn State Greater Allegheny Thursday. The Wildcats took game one 5-1 with junior Joshua Longsderff (Columbia) recording the win and were just edged out in game two losing in eight innings 1-0. With the split, the team is now 5-1 in the PSUAC and 8-7 overall.

In the win, Longsderff allowed only four hits in seven innings of work. Penn College struck first in the second when junior Cody Buterbaugh (Conestoga) hit a bases-loaded single to score two. Cody Buterbaugh ended the game with two hits.

The Wildcats added two more in the third which included an RBI single from freshman James Simasek (Landenberg). Sophomore Zachary Weil (Kutztown) also recorded an RBI in the inning.

Weil ended the game 2 for 3.

The Lions made it a 4-1 game in the fourth scoring on two hits against Longsderff. Penn College added more cushion in seventh when sophomore Zachary Buterbaugh (Conestoga) hit an RBI single.

Also for the Wildcats, freshman Rantz Mahaffey (Williamsport) was 2 for 3.

Sophomore Zachary Yetter (Thompsontown) got the start in game two and pitched a solid seven innings with two strikeouts. The Penn College offense made some hard hits but the Lions' defense was up to the task allowing only three hits in the game. Zachary and Cody Buterbaugh and sophomore Travis Hendershot (Muncy) each notched a hit.

In the eighth, sophomore Matthew Demilio (Greensburg) came to the mound. An error by Simasek allowed a runner in scoring position and a single plated to run to end the game in Greater Allegheny's favor.

Next up, the Wildcats travel to Penn State Fayette on Saturday, Apr. 6 for a 2 p.m. doubleheader.
