Beaver drops two games on the road

Greentree, PA -- The Lions traveled to Greentree this afternoon to face NAIA Point Park University. In game one of the double header, Beaver hit well with nine total hits, but poor pitching by the Lions kept them out of the game. Earning hits in game one were junior, Mike Karas (New Castle, PA/Neshannock) and senior Grant Scott (Sewickley, PA/Ann Arbor Pioneer) who both had two hits and leading the Lions offensively was senior Cory Wagner (Monaca, PA/Center) with three hits including a double and one RBI. Also tallying RBI's in the game were Scott with three, Alex Filippi (Aliquippa, PA/Center) and Karas both with one a piece.

Game two saw the same poor pitching by the Lions and this time the run support was absent. Beaver was only able to get one hit in the game coming from freshman, Mike Ross (New Castle, PA/Neshannock).

Head coach, Jack Hilfinger, knew going into the game that he planned to pitch conservatively with big conference games scheduled this weekend. As a result all eight pitchers for Beaver saw action this afternoon. Throwing a few innings each were freshmen Mike Ross, Brad Verlihay (Beaver Falls, PA/Blackhawk) and Matt Sweikowski (Zelienople, PA/Seneca Valley). Also on the mound were sophomore, Stephen Galmarini (New Castle, PA/Union) and junior Tyler Schuster (Beaver Falls, PA/Beaver Falls). Three senior pitchers, Ryan Hudacsek (Economy, PA/Ambridge), Cory Wagner and Vincent Beatty (Rochester, PA/Rochester) also saw some action this afternoon.

The Lions are back in action this weekend at home as they are scheduled to take on conference rival Penn State Wilkes-Barre with the first game of the double header slated to start at 2pm.
