Baseball: Longsderff Pitches Complete Game Shutout as Wildcats Sweep Mont Alto

MONT ALTO, Pa. – Junior Joshua Longsderff (Columbia) recorded a complete game shutout with four hits and a strikeout as the Pennsylvania College of Technology baseball team swept Penn State Mont Alto 10-3 and 2-0 in conference action Thursday. Junior Cody Buterbaugh (Conestoga) aided the cause with three hits and two RBI. The Wildcats now improve to 5-6 overall and 2-0 in the Penn State University Athletic Conference.  

In the opening game, sophomore Zachary Yetter (Thompsontown) recorded the win going 4 2/3 allowing two runs and striking out two. He got some run support in the third when the Wildcats scored four runs including a two-RBI shot from sophomore Travis Hendershot (Muncy).  

Sophomore Craig Watson (McEwensville) came in relief in the fifth pitching 1 1/3 with a run and two strikeouts. Sophomore Zachary Weil (Kutztown) hit an RBI single with two outs to make it a 5-3 game in the sixth.

Cody Buterbaugh gave the Wildcats cushion in the seventh with a two-RBI single. They scored five runs in the inning. Sophomore Zachary Buterbaugh (Conestoga) finished out the final 1 2/3 with no hits and a strikeout.

It was all about the defense in game two as both teams flashed some leather to keep it scoreless through the first four innings. Longsderff got some help in the fourth when, with the bases loaded and no outs, Zachary Buterbaugh sent a laser to home plate off a fly ball to throw out the base runner from third.

Cody Buterbaugh also made a diving catch in the game at second base to save a run from scoring.

Penn College put up both of its runs in the fourth when freshman Jeremy Rall (Williamsport) hit an RBI double. Weil followed to score Rall on a sacrifice fly.

In the game, Penn College totaled only three hits.

Next up, the Wildcats travel to Penn State York on Tuesday, Apr. 2 for a 2 p.m. doubleheader.
