Baseball: Buterbaugh Racks Up Three RBI in Loss to Wilkes

 

WILKES BARRE, Pa. – Junior Cody Buterbaugh (Conestoga) was 2 for 4 with three RBI as the Pennsylvania College of Technology baseball team lost a tight 7-5 game to Wilkes University Wednesday. The team took an early lead in the game but the Wilkes bats came alive against the Wildcat pitching staff to secure the victory. The loss drops Penn College to 3-6 overall while the Colonels improve to 8-4.  

 

Cody Buterbaugh singled in the top of the first scoring sophomore Zachary Buterbaugh (Conestoga) to take the 1-0 lead. The Colonel's Adam Misiura singled with two outs in the bottom of the inning to even it out. Zachary Buterbaugh ended the day with two hits, two runs and an RBI.

 

In the second, sophomore Craig Watson (McEwensville) hit a sacrifice fly scoring sophomore Travis Hendershot (Muncy). The Wildcats plated two more runs off a triple from Cody Buterbaugh making it 4-1.

 

With three hits in the bottom of the inning, Wilkes chipped away at the lead scoring two runs making it a one-run game. They took the lead in fourth notching three runs to make it 6-4.

 

Down 7-4 in the seventh, Penn College put up its final run off a sacrifice fly by Cody Buterbaugh scoring freshman Rantz Mahaffey (Williamsport).

 

Junior starter Brian Santangelo recorded the loss going 3.2 innings with five strikeouts and six earned runs. Sophomore Matthew Demilio came in relief for 3.1 innings striking out three with one earned run. Freshman Luke Zamiskie pitched the final inning allowing no hits.

 

Next up, the Wildcats travel to Penn State Mont Alto on Thursday, Mar. 28 for a 2 p.m. doubleheader.
