Beaver splits doubleheader with Geneva

Beaver Falls, PA--- Penn State Beaver split a doubleheader with Geneva College on Friday, winning the first game in a slugfest 18-17 and falling in the second 5-4.

In game one, Freshman Matt Sweikowski (Zelienople, Senaca Valley) picked up the win, going 2 and 2/3 innings of relief, giving up 3 earned runs on 2 hits and striking out 3. Beaver got 5 RBI from Jim Musgrave (Economy, Ambridge) including a first inning 3 run home run as he finished the game with 3 hits. Grant Scott (Sewickley, Ann Arbor Pioneer) finished with 4 hits and Alex Filippi (Aliquippa, Center) had three hits. Markus Allen (New Castle, Union) had 3 hits, including a triple and finished with 3 RBI and Tom Lewis (Aliquippa, Hopewell) had 2 RBI.

The second game Beaver got going in the third inning with a Grant Scott 3 run home run and added another run in the fourth when Cory Wagner (Monaca, Center) had an RBI single to score Musgrave after Musgrave doubled earlier in the inning. Geneva would score 4 in the fourth inning and another run in the fifth to take the game 5-4 in a game that ended after 6 innings due to darkness. Scott finished the day 6-8 for Beaver.
