Baseball: Wildcats Settle after Rocky First Game to Split on Day Three of Tournament

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – Freshman Jeremy Rall (Williamsport) collected five hits and three RBI in two games as the Pennsylvania College of Technology baseball team competed on the third day of the Ripken Experience Tournament at Myrtle Beach, S.C. The Wildcats played a sloppy game against Adirondack Community College and lost 4-3 but bounced back to take down Albert Magnus College 8-5. With the split they are now 3-4 overall.  

Sophomore Zachary Yetter (Thompsontown) pitched the first 3-1/3 innings against Adirondack giving up all four runs off of four hits, two hit batters and three walks. Sophomore Craig Watson (McEwensville) finished out the game and settled down the offense allowing only two hits over the next 2-2/3.  

The Wildcats were on board in the first with junior Cody Buterbaugh (Conestoga), sophomore Zachary Buterbaugh (Conestoga) and Rall hitting back-to-back singles to load the bases. Sophomore Zachary Weil hit into a groundout but recorded the RBI. 

Cody Buterbaugh and Rall both ended the game 2 for 3.

Adirondack tied it up in the bottom of the inning after the leadoff batter walked, stole second and got to third on a passed ball. He later scored on a single.

Freshman James Simasek (Landenberg) notched an RBI in the second with a sacrifice fly. Adirondack again tied it up in the bottom with Yetter walking in a run. The team tacked on two more runs in the fourth making it 4-2.

Penn College finished out its tab in the sixth as sophomore Nicholas Fazio (Norristown) scored on an error after singling to get on.

Against Albert Magnus, junior Joshua Longsderff (Columbia) pitched the first six with five strikeouts, seven hits and five runs. He allowed an early run in the first, but got some cushion in the bottom of the inning when the Wildcats scored three runs off of four hits which included extra-bases from Cody Buterbaugh, Rall and Weil.

Weil ended the game 2 for 3 with a double, triple and RBI.

Albert Magnus came back for the lead in the fourth scoring three, but it didn't last long as Zachary Buterbaugh recorded two RBI and Rall added another to score three in the bottom of the inning making it 7-4.

With the game at 7-5 in the sixth, Rall finished out the game with another RBI for Penn College.

Zachary Buterbaugh finished the final inning on the mound allowing no hits.

The Wildcats finish out the tournament on Thursday, Mar. 14 taking on Dean College at 4 p.m.
